Tis but a scratch -- a flesh wound

Sometimes I forget how little you all know about me

we all think that we know each other so well

so

would you believe that I'm a bit of a theater bug?

yeah -- the bug bit me a in college and while I don't have a lot of time for it -- I do like to stay involved.

so -- I've been the understudy for a local theatre group this year -- we've put on an all female feminist Hamlet -- normally being an understudy means lots of rehearsal -- but not much else

so imagine my surprise when I hear backstage that our Hamlet's lost her voice and I need to go on

and

things went pretty well
I've really been studying

until the sword fight at the end

when

ok

you know they're not real swords right?  I mean -- sure we're a bunch of nutty feminists prancing around in period costumes doing Shakespeare -- but we're not crazy -- the swords are rubber

and just at the end that bitch Laertes misses with her sword and hits me in the eye

giving me a nasty scratch on my cornea.

so

if anyone asks

THAT's how it happened.

yeah

that's it

feminist hamlet swordfight injury.

  1. "feminist hamlet swordfight injury"?

    Shakespeare's revenge on the feminists?

  2. I feel really bad for giggling, but I couldn't help myself.

I'll feel extra bad if it's a serious injury (scratched cornea's, not something I know anything about). It isn't serious, is it...?

    1. @lil -- it's painful - -but not serious.

shall we change the play to a pirate farce?

(and do you think they'll buy my story at work?)

  4. Yikes- that doesn't sound fun (the cornea part , not the theater part )

I did a similar thing although gardening, not sword fighting (yes typing that even sounds weird) and my Dr gave me this ointment that helped clear it up in a few days. Painful for sure!

    Feel better!

  5. first, if anyone asks? I won't tell them the sword was rubber. :) I'll say it was because of your deft footwork that kept you from being skewered, and that you emerged, a bit scuffed up, but hard as nails.

And hell, now you're ready for Pirates of the Caribbean, arrrrr!

    nillarrrrrrr

  6. OK, so first, I'm not laughing AT you, I'm laughing far away from you. Second...OUCH - cornea scratches hurt like hell! and NOT in the good way. Sorry. Thirdly, WOW, I'm impressed - on with no expectation and you pull it off...you ROCK!

    hugs,
